# Export Podcasts to Markdown

Alto Index writes each show you follow in Apple Podcasts as Markdown, with a table of its episodes, plays and progress, kept in sync. Free, with no limit.

Each show you follow, with the episodes you played.

## What you get

- One file per show you follow, with its artwork, author, feed and number of episodes
- A table of its episodes: title, published, duration, plays, progress and status
- A link that opens the show in Podcasts
- After each sync, `journal/media.md` lists the episodes you played

## Where the files go

```
alto-index/podcasts/<show>.md
alto-index/podcasts/assets/
```

## What you choose

- Tick the shows to export; Shows and Recent help you find them

## Left out

- Shows you do not follow
- Episode descriptions; there is no file per episode
- The artwork is downloaded once, from the show's own address

## Free

Podcasts is free, with no limit.

## With Claude

The [MCP server](/mcp) lets Claude Desktop search your shows, and `/altoindex:search` in the [Claude plugin](/claude-plugin) searches them with everything else.
