Export Safari to Markdown
Convert browsing history into AI-accessible knowledge.
What you get
- History: a file per day, a heading per hour, each visit with its time, title and link, and the day’s topics
- Bookmarks: a file for Favorites and one for the Bookmarks Menu, a section per folder
- Reading List: a file per page, saying when you saved it and whether you read it, with Safari’s preview
- With Safari unlocked: your open tabs a file per device, Tab Groups, Recently Closed, downloads and the Privacy Report a file a month, Top Sites, each site’s settings, and on macOS 27 the pages you asked Safari to watch
- A day’s file stays after Safari forgets that day
Where the files go
alto-index/safari-history/2026-09-14.md
alto-index/safari-bookmarks/Favorites.md
alto-index/safari-reading-list/
alto-index/safari-tabs/
What you choose
- Untick a site to take its visits out of every day, or a kind to leave it out
- Includes, in Options…: Page Snippets (macOS 27), Topics and Icons are on; Page Pictures, Page Text and CSV are off until you tick them
- CSV tables of your history, bookmarks, Reading List and downloads, beside the Markdown
- Tabs, Tab Groups and Page Pictures need Safari’s data folder connected as well
Left out
- Private windows
- Page Text fetches bookmark and Reading List pages only, never your history, and without your cookies
Free and paid
The newest 10 days of history are free, with every bookmark and the Reading List. Then one purchase unlocks all of Safari: on its own, as one of any three apps, or with all of them. Either Safari purchase you made before unlocks it too. See pricing.
